Soft Pretzels

Ingredients

  • 2.5 c lukewarm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 8 tsp active dry yeast
  • 6 c flour
  • 1.5 tbsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 4 tbsp baking soda
  • 3 c hot boiling water
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Mix sugar with lukewarm water, sprinkle yeast, then let stand for 10 mins
  • Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl, pour in yeast and oil, knead.
  • Let rest for 1 hour, then divide into 16 portions.
  • Roll each portion into a rope, and shape into pretzels.
  • Preheat oven to 450 F
  • In a large bowl, dilute baking soda in hot boiling water, then dip a pretzel at a time. Place pretzel on greased pans.
  • Sprinkle pretzels with coarse salt, bake pretzels for 10 mins
