Semur Ayam

chicken dish with sweet gravy

Ingredients

  • 5 garlic
  • 1/2 large onion
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 12 chicken thighs
  • 1 c hot boiling water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Chicken bouillon powder to taste
  • Freshly grated nutmeg ro tasted
  • 2-3 tbsp white cooking vinegar
  • Sweet soy sauce to taste (Indonesian sweet soy sauce – kecap manis)
  • White pepper powder to taste

Instructions

  • Slice thinly garlic and onion, then saute until softened, for a minute or two in butter
  • Add in chicken thighs, stir to coat for 3-5 minutes, then pour ini hot boiling water. Add in bay leaves. Cook for 20 minutes.
  • Season withe the rest of the ingredients, cook covered on medium heat, until chicken cooked through.
  • Serve with warm rice and enjoy 😊
