I am so in love with pierogi. So many flavor I can find at the grocery stores. My absolute faved would be potato, cheese, and onion. They are sometimes a bit tasteless though, as if they needed more salt or some flavoring. The ones you get from grocery stores, I mean.
So…I gave a try and here is my 1st pierogi ever 😀
The filling is a bit spicy, so adjust the seasoning to your liking 🙂
Pierogi:
4 cups flour
a dash of salt
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 egg beaten
1 cup warm water
Filling:
half of 1 can of baked beans in maple syrup, drain
1 small pack of frozen bison meat, thawed
piquancy powder
1 pouch chili seasoning mix
garlic powder
hot sauce (Tabasco prefer)
onion, chopped
1 cup grated cheese
2-3 tbsp mix vegetable drink
2 tbsp cooking oil
To make Pierogi:
In a large bowl mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Make a well in the center.
In a separate bowl mix together the vegetable oil, warm water, and beaten egg. Pour into dry ingredients. Knead dough for 8 to 10 minutes.
Cover dough and let rest for 2 hours.
Meanwhile make the filling:
Heat the cooking oil and saute the chopped onion, add in the meat and the rest of the ingredients, spice it up to your liking. Let it cool to room temperature before filling
Divide dough to make about 30 rolls. Roll flat each and fill. Pinch seal the ends of dough. Shape as pierogi shape.
