Last night nor this morning didn’t rain, so I watered my backyard earlier 😊 I see that my plums changing in color, as well my cherries seem to be ready to be harvested soon.
The city planted a lot of gooseberries and sour cherries for the citizens to pick freely and responsibly, and they announced theirs were ready to be picked. As mine aren’t ready yet, not for a couple more weeks, I dragged my boys, husband included, to get a bowl each from the city’s garden, enough for a 10 inch pie for the sour cherries 😊 I think I will make jam for the gooseberries, I have yet to decide 😊
For today’s recipe isn’t the pie though, but another Hungarian dish, a beef stew to be exact. I will share the pie tomorrow once I’ve edited the clips 😊
1.3 kg beef cubes
2 c flour
1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
1 tbsp fennel seeds
1/2 tbsp sweet paprika powder
1 jar wine sauerkraut, drain and rinse
1/3 c sunflower oil
1 small-medium onion
6 garlic
2 tbsp fennel seeds
1/2 tbso sweet paprika powded
2 beef bouillon cubes
1 box of beef broth (1 L)
1 c flour
1/2 tbsp fennel seeds
1/4 tbsp sweet paprika powder
1/4 tbsp chicken bouillon powder
1 c sour cream
Water as needed
1 small bowl dill, sliced
Mix flour, bouillon powder, fennel seeds, paprika powder in a bowl, add in beef cubes, coat evenly
Heat oil using Instant Pot, brown beef, discard the excess flour. Take beef off the pot, set to side
With leftover drips in the pot, saute sliced garlic and onion til fragrant, then stir in fennel and paprika powder. Pour in a little broth, let it boil
Add in browned beef and sauerkraut, pour in the rest of the broth, mix. Drop in beef cubes.
Click soup option on your Instant Pot, cook for 1.30 H
Turn off Instant Pot, release steam, turn Instant Pot back on
In a bowl, mix flour, bouillon powder, paprika, powder and fennel. Pour in enough water to dilute the mixture, then stir in sour cream
Pour mixture into the pot, stir in dill, bring back to boil for 5-8 mins
Serve as is or with sourdough bread/baguette
