Bakpao is Indonesia style steamed buns. Originally from mainland China, steamed buns can be found almost everywhere in South East Asian countries, with almost similar name, as well, with the exception of Japan, but then again, Japan is not in SEA, however, they have nikuman that is super similar to Chinese baozi.
In Indonesia, bakpao can be filled with sweet filling such as mung bean, red bean, or black bean paste. You can also find them with chocolate, srikaya (egg custard), and jam. Meat fillings would include beef, chicken, as well a mixture with boiled egg. Many possibilities 🙂
In Netherlands, it is believed the Indonesian descendants who introduced it there.
How about where you are from. Do you have steamed buns too? What are the common fillings there? Let me know in the comment 🙂
