Hi Friends!
This following dish is basing on Indonesian chicken dish (semur) that is always with sweet gravy. The difference is that Indonesians don’t really use BBQ sauce but sweet dark soy sauce that is known as KECAP MANIS, as for mine in the vlog, use BBQ sauce AND kecap manis.
When you get dark soy sauce that are not Indonesia made though (in Canada, we have Dutch brand normally), they are not as sweet and tasty as Indonesian brand(s), no bias here, so do try to find Indonesian brand, such as ABC Kecap Manis (Walmart carries it!)
This dish is super perfect to be served with warm rice btw!
1/4 c unsalted butter
1/4 c diced onion
5 garlic, sliced
1.5 kg chicken pieces
6-8 baby potatoes, sliced
1.5 c hot boiling water
1 bell pepper, cubed/quartered
8-10 cherry tomatoes
1/4 c BBQ sauce
2-4 tbsp chicken liquid base
1/4 c sweet soy sauce
Generous pinch nutmeg ground
Generous pinches white pepper powder

Semur Ayam
Ingredients
- 1/4 c unsalted butter
- 1/4 c diced onion
- 5 garlic sliced
- 1.5 kg chicken pieces
- 6-8 baby potatoes sliced
- 1.5 c hot boiling water
- 1 bell pepper cubed/quartered
- 8-10 cherry tomatoes
- 1/4 c BBQ sauce
- 2-4 tbsp chicken liquid base
- 1/4 c sweet soy sauce
- Generous pinch nutmeg ground
- Generous pinches white pepper powder
Instructions
- Melt butter and saute onion and garlic
- Stir in chicken pieces, cook until pale and browning
- Add in potatoes, stir
- Pour in hot boiling water
- Add in veggies
- Season
- Cover with lid, cook until chicken’s cooked through
- Adjust seasoning to your liking and more water if needed
