Hi Hi Hiveians!
I had a fun time messing around with food coloring on my slab apple pie today. This delish apple slab pie is Hungarian style apple pie. The crust is not crisp like North American style, but more to cake or soft bread.
The pie is always rectangular in shape (slab pie), and always sprinkled with icing sugar. But you know me, I like playing with my food, so, ta-daaaa

Here are the ingredients!
- 400 g flour
- 1 egg
- 140 g butter
- 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 c milk
- 12 small apples
- 1/2 c sugar
- Cinnamon powder

Ingredients
- 400 g flour
- 1 egg
- 140 g butter
- 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 c milk
Filling
- 12 small apples
- 1/2 c sugar
- Cinnamon powder
Instructions
- Mix crust ingredients, knead. Let rest while you prepare filling
Filling
- Peel and grate apples
- Mix in sugar and cinnamon powder, stir to combine well, set aside
Pie
- Divide dough into two, for top and bottom crust
- Lay one crust on pan
- Squeeze out juice from grated apple, and spread apple on crust
- Top apple filling with another crust, poke wholes
- Brush top with apple juice
- Bake on preheated 350 F for 45 mins
- Serve sprinkled with icing sugar!
