Today’s recipe is a Canadian cuisine, woo-hoo 😀
I am thinking maybe I should share more Canadian awesomeness, as I haven’t share much, but Indonesian and Hungarian this past 3 years ☺
So yep, here is a Canadian meat pie known as tourtiere, it is of Quebec origin ?

I also include fresh salad (fresh pickles or salad) from Indonesia called Acar in the video as my husband likes his tourtiere with acar ?
Crust
4 c AP flour
1 1/2 – 2 tsp coarse Kosher salt
1 c golden shortening
1-2 tbsp butter
2 beaten eggs
6-10 tbsp cold water
Filling
600 g frozen ground beef, thaw
7 mini red potatoes (or 1 large)
2 garlic
1/2 tsp each sage, thyme
1/4 tsp ground mustard
4 cloves
2 tsp coarse Kosher salt
3/4 – 1 c beef/chicken/veggie broth
Acar (Fresh Pickles)
Carrots
Cucumbers
Garlic, onion
Hungarian hot peppers (or bird eye chilies)
Enough water
Vinegar, sugar, salt to taste

Tourtiere
Ingredients
Crust
- 4 c AP flour
- 1 1/2 – 2 tsp coarse Kosher salt
- 1 c golden shortening
- 1-2 tbsp butter
- 2 beaten eggs
- 6-10 tbsp cold water
Filling
- 600 g frozen ground beef thaw
- 7 mini red potatoes or 1 large
- 2 garlic
- 1/2 tsp each sage thyme
- 1/4 tsp ground mustard
- 4 cloves
- 2 tsp coarse Kosher salt
- 3/4 – 1 c beef/chicken/veggie broth
Acar
- Carrots
- Cucumbers
- Garlic onion
- Hungarian hot peppers or bird eye chilies
- Enough water
- Vinegar sugar, salt to taste
Instructions
Acar
- Slice veggies, place in a bowl. Pour in water and vinegar. Season with salt and sugar, it should be sweet and sour in flavor. Chill for an H or two before serving.
Filling
- Place everything into a pot, bring to boil until no more broth, set aside
- Boil potato or steam in microwave, mash, then add into cooked beef
Crust
- Mix dry ingredients, add in butter and shortening until crumbly. Knead in egg and water. Divide into two crust, top and bottom
- Place bottom crust on a pie plate, pour in filling, cover with top crust, poke holes. Brush top with beaten yolk
- Bake at preheated 425 F for 15 mins, reduce heat to 350 F and bake for 30 mins
