I have a quicky tutorial today that is perfect for a homemade gift for a baby shower with a personal touch, or if you are in the business of providing service for baby shower’s gift and/or table decorations, or if you would like to make yourself for your party, as it is a very simple one 🙂 In the shape on Minnie Mouse, for sure this following diaper cake is for baby girl’s shower 🙂 You can make the bow either with ribbon or baby wash-cloth, or even felt material.
It took me less than half H from start to finish, in producing this Minnie Mouse diaper cake. Here is the quicky tutorial 😀
- 17 baby diapers of your choice
- rubber bans
- hot glue gun with the gun
- washi tape
- ribbon
With 11 diapers for the head, 6 diapers for the ears, you may want to use a 7-inch round pan to help you produce a nice round shape for the head or you can just do it free-style, without the pan, but it would require a little practice. Line diapers one by one shaping into the shape of the round pan, 10 diapers for the outside shape, and 1 to roll like a jelly roll, to be inserted in the center.
Once you used up the whole 11 diapers, grab a rubber ban, and tie the head diapers together. If needed, use more than one rubber ban, because sometimes diapers need to be adjusted to make them lined up nicely. This time I had to use 3 rubber bans for the head itself. For the ears, divide 6 diapers into two (left and right ears). Grab one diaper, roll to jelly roll, then grab another one, place the rolled one in center, then roll the 2nd one to make a second layer, repeat for the 3rd diaper. Once you have an ear, grab a rubber ban, secure the diaper with the rubber ban. Now you have an ear. Repeat steps with the other 3 diapers to make another ear.
Preheat your glue gun after you produced the head and ears. Measure your ribbon as big as the size and cut them, to the size of the head and the ears, so you would make 3 ribbons at this point – you need these ribbons to cover the rubber bans OR you can use receiving blankets. Once the glue gun ready, glue the ribbons to the sides of the head and the ears. You want the ribbon to be tied to the diapers, without the glue touching the diapers.
Hot glued ears to the head, and voila. As you are able to see, your Minnie/Mickey Mouse shape is there already. Time to decorate! Make a bow with a piece of ribbon or a small wash-cloth. With the help of washi-tape, secure this ribbon onto the head, either on center between ears, or on side.
Ta-da!
Side down as on pictures would be best for gift. You can stand this diaper cake if it’s for table decoration for a party, but you might want to secure ears with clothes pins of some sorts, but remembering not to puncture the diapers, obviously 😉 Thanks for looking!
