Hi friends!
So were you lucky enough to see the super blue blood moon that only happened once in 152 years, last night? Did you answer, yes? Super ? I wasn’t lucky, we had snow falling since two days ago, we were up before 4 freaking AM, to shovel the snow so that my husband and my little would be able to walk to the car come time to go to school/work, the sky was dark, nothing but the falling snow, snow, snow, snow, too much snow; and of course, wife of the year here, ladies and gentlemen, I only watched while my husband was shoveling ?✌️?
I have been wanting for cinnamon rolls since I was up, but didn’t want to make too much noise while the kids were still sleeping. By the time they were up and oldest gone to school, I decided to make something else instead ?
Ta-daaaaa!
Lazy-man Longetivity Peach Steamed Buns
Lazy-man because it’s not using yeast or hour long proofing and whatnot ? My 4 yo even “helped” and produced a VERY ‘ripe’ peach color, you’ll see ?
February is tomorrow already and soon enough Chinese New Year will be here, so I thought to shape my steamed buns as longetivity peach. Originally they are filled with lotus seeds, but I don’t have those and am lazy to prepare anything that requires more work ? So they are filled with rhubarb-strawberry jam (ready to use) and DF chocolate chips.
Let’s see how I made these buns!
Ingredients – make 6 buns
- 400 g flour
- 2 tbsp each BPowder, icing sugar, vegetable oil
- 200 ml coconut milk beverage (or cashew/almond/rice whoever DF milk you wish to)
- favorite filling, such as jam, peanut butter, df chocolate chips etc
- red food coloring (Wilton, vegan friendly – dissolve in a little water)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 150 ml water
How To
- Mix everything and knead, cover with cling wrap, let rest for 15 minutes
Divide dough @100 g each and use the left over for making leaves
Roll flat each dough, place jam/chocolate chips+a dot of vegan margarine, seam to seal and shape a little like egg
With a skewer, press buns a little, as shown here
Brush Teflon with oil, place buns (brush leaves with water a little to attach them on buns)
- Cook until buns producing crackling sound, on medium heat, covered
I just love crackling sound
- Lower heat to low, pour in water, cover, and continue steaming until water evaporates
- Once buns are done, dip brand new tooth brush (are you like me, have a stock of brand new tooth brush from your last visit to dentist? ????) in food color
- Flick brush on buns, which of course, my 4 yo painted his instead flicking the brush ?
Yummo!
