We make a lot of steamed buns in this house, sometimes filled with sweets, other times savory.
When I am not too lazy I would steam them using a proper food steamer, but when am too hungry, I would just steam them in a quick way, like this following recipe I am sharing 😊
These steamed buns are filled with bananas and Notella (vegan Nutella), and potato ragout.
Vegan Nutella
- I don’t really use measurement when I make hazelnut paste. What you need to do is roast enough hazelnut, peel/scrape skin, place in food processor with enough cocoa powder and maple syrup. Process until smooth.
- My Nutribullet can never produce smooth Notella, I love using Ninja Professional
- Refrigerate, good for a week top.
Potato & Black Beans Ragout
(This is good to be served with warm rice btw!)
- 3 medium red potato, skinned, cubed to bitesize, boiled for 10–12 mins, drain
- 1/2 of an onion, sliced
- 2 garlic, slices
- 2 bell pepper (colorful ones), diced
- 1/2 c TVP, soften in hot water for a minute
- 1 can black beans, drain
- 1 tbsp Vegeta powder
- 2 tsp each ground cumin, coriander and smoked paprika powder
- 1/2-1 tbsp lemon juice
- Heat oil, saute onion garlic to soften
- Stir in bell peppers, cook for 2-3 mins
- Add in the rest and season
- Stir well
- Adjust flavor
As this is for my kids too, I didn’t add cayenne nor black pepper but those would be wonderful to add as well!
Quickie Steamed Buns
- 200 g flour
- 1 tbsp BP
- 1 tbsp icing sugar
- 1 tsp salt (less if with sweet filling)
- 1 tbsp oil
- 100 ml almond milk
- Mix everything, knead, let rest for 15-20 mins, covered
- Divide dough into 7 equal portions (45-50 g each)
- Roll flat each and fill with whatever you like
- Seam to seal
- Brush a pan with a little olive oil and place buns on pan
- Cook on medium heat until you hear it’s heating up/crackling sound
- Lower heat to low and pour 150 ml water and cook until water evaporated, covered (about 10 mins or so)
- Serve immediately or at room temp/slightly warm
Enjoy 🙂
I filled the decorated ones with sliced banana and vegan Nutella, while the rest with potato ragout and served with ketchup!
Chocolate Buns
Same as recipe above, but I added 3 tbsp icing sugar and 1 tbsp cocoa powder plus 115 ml water 😊
