I love Trancam sooooo much. This Indonesian raw salad is super easy to make, super good and super refreshing as is or with warm rice. Bonus point, my 7 yo son likes it too, and it is nutrients packed for him for sure. He likes (almost) everything with tempeh and coconut ?
Originally using shrimp paste to give it’s extra flavor, my vegan version (omitting the shrimp paste) is as good!
While in Indonesia it is always raw, I had to sort of cooked mine though, as my ingredients weren’t as fresh (from the freezer and whatnot).
1 bunch of Chinese long beans, slice thinly, then soak in enough water
1 long English cucumber, skinned, cubed, soak along sliced long beans
1 bunch of fresh Asian basil leaves (Thai basil leaves), roughly torn/chopped and soak with the other veggies
1 bag fresh bean sprouts, give a quick rinse with hot boiled water for a second or two (just quickly blached)
Spice Paste:
1/2 of a large purple onion
4 red bird eye chilies (mine were from the freezer, if you have fresh ones, much better)
3 cloves of garlic
2 candlenut (available at Asian stores or online)
1/2 tsp of lesser galangal powder (available at Asian stores or online. Sometimes it is also known as lesser ginger)
1 bag of unsweetened dessicated coconut
3 dried kafir lime leaves, crushed (if you can find the fresh ones, much better!)
1 block of tempeh (mine was homemade but had been frozen, so defrost it first if you are using frozen tempeh) – bake in 350 F for 20 mins, then broil a little on both sides. Cubed, set aside
Salt and sugar to taste
Method:
Dry fry (without oil) spice paste on nonstick pan until fragrant, then pour in 1/4 c of water, stir. Season with salt and sugar then stir in coconut to combine completely. Take off from heat.
Drain veggies and mix with coconut mixture and cubed tempeh.

1 ikat kacang panjang, iris tipis, rendam Di air
1 buah timun panjang, kupas kulit, iris dadu besar, rendam bersama kacang panjang
1 ikat kemangi, sobek2, rendam bersama Sayur lainnya
1 bungkus kecambah, siram dengan air Panas, tiriskan
Bumbu halus:
1/2 bawang Bombay ungu, ukuran besar
4 buah cabai rawit merah
3 siung bawang putih
2 butir kemiri
1/2 sdt kencur bubuk
1 bungkus kelapa parut kering
3 Dan jeruk kering, hancurkan
Garam
Gula
1 keping tempe
Kalau Di Indonesia trancam mentahan, disini says agak masak sedikit, krn Bahan yg saya punya beku atau bukan Bahan Segar
Panas kan oven 350 F, panggang Tempe 20 menit kemudian nyalakan API atas, bakar Tempe sesuai selera (Tempe saya beku, Jadi semalam sebelumnya saya keluar kan dr freezer Dan masuk kan ke kulkas biar tidak beku saat ingin dibakar). Setelah dibakar, potong2, sisihkan
Campur bumbu halus, Panas kan pd API sedang di atas kompor, tanpa minyak, beri air 1/4 c Dan masuk kan kelapa kering (saya masak karena cabe yg saya punya dr beku Serta jeruk yg saya pakai, jeruk kering begitu pula dg kelapa parut nya), masak sebentar, beri Gula Dan garam
Tiriskan seluruh Sayuran Dan aduk
Masuk kan bumbu kelapa, campur rata
Beri Tempe bakar, aduk
