Saw this recipe in one of the “new” old cookbook I have in the basement library and thought I’d give a try. Not bad at all although I never had Salisbury Steak before and did not really cross my mind a steak would use ground beef haha
The boys had theirs with toast, just like a sandwich or a burger instead how I served mine as pictured above.
1/4 c each of bread crumbs, chopped onion, water
salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
500 g ground beef
2 tsp cooking oil (if fried, see inside brackets for note)
Mix everything and make 4 patties
Fire up your grill and cook until no longer pink (NOTE: or you can fry them on non stick pan over 2 tsp oil)
Sauce:
1 box of sliced mushrooms
1 small tin beef broth
a couple drop of Worcestershire sauce
a pinch or two dried thyme
2-3 tbsp flour
Dissolve the flour in 1/4 c of beef broth, set aside, and pour the rest of the broth into a pot
Add in sliced mushrooms and flavor with Worcestershoer sauce, bring to boil
Pour in thickener (diluted flour), stir quickly
Add in dried thyme, stir, and cook until mushrooms are soften
Place patties on serving plate and top with mushroom sauce, serve immediately
Enjoy 🙂
