It is not originally from Indonesia, but the Chinese descendants introduced it to Indonesia since ages ago that it become one of known dishes in Indonesia.
I grew up with puyunghai. My Mom made her own “red” sauce and it was always delish.
1 can crabmeat, drain
2 cm ginger, bruised
8 eggs, beaten
2 garlic and 1 small onion, thinly sliced
Hungarian Vegeta seasonings, to taste
tomato sauce
green onion, very thinly sliced
sugar to taste
1 medium onion, chopped/minced
vinegar
garlic powder, to taste
water
1 carrot, shredded
vegetable oil
1 potato, shredded
Omelet:
Mix well beaten eggs with crabmeat,Vegeta seasoning, green onion, onion, garlic powder.
Heat vegetable oil, make 2 thick omelets, set aside.
Sauce:
Heat vegetable oil, saute garlic, onion, ginger. Add in shredded potato and carrot, mix well. Cook until tender.
Add in tomato sauce, vinegar, sugar, water, as needed. Mix well. This should form somewhat thick but still runny sweet and sour sauce.
Egg Foo Yung
Ingredients
- 1 can crabmeat drain
- 2 cm ginger bruised
- 8 eggs beaten
- 2 garlic and 1 small onion thinly sliced

- tomato sauce
- green onion very thinly sliced
- sugar to taste
Sauce
- 1 medium onion chopped/minced
- vinegar
- garlic powder to taste
- water
- 1 carrot shredded
- vegetable oil
- 1 potato shredded
Instructions
- Mix well beaten eggs with crabmeat, Vegeta seasoning, green onion, onion, garlic powder.
- Heat vegetable oil, make 2 thick omelets, set aside.
Sauce
