In my household, this chicken dish is known as Ayam Kecap (ayam is chicken while kecap is sweet soy sauce), but my friends who are from different areas of Indonesia would call them as Ayam Mentega (mentega is butter).
I have been told, in old days, of my grandparents days, this was spelled as Ajam Ketjap.
Regardless the writing and the calling, this dish is soooo good, even only served with warm rice.
Ingredients
1 green onion
8-10 pieces chicken, cleaned and washed
frying oil
2-3 tablespoons of sweet soy sauce
4 cloves of garlic
1/4 water
salt, sugar, and MSG if desired
2 tablespoons of butter/margarine
How To
- Crush garlic and mix with a little salt, then coat chicken
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan, fry the chicken until cooked, set aside
- Meanwhile, crushed the other 2 cloves of garlic, make thin cut of the green onion, set aside
- Heat the margarine, saute the crushed garlic, add in sweet soy sauce, stir well, if needed add in 1/4 cup of water.
- Add in salt and a little bit of sugar and MSG if desired, then add in the fried chickens, stir well.
- Just before turning off the stove, add in the thinly cut of green onions.
- Serve with hot rice, and chicken soup if you like!
Butter Chicken (Ayam Kecap)
Ingredients

Bahasa Indonesia – Ayam Kecap
Suka banget sama ayam kecap, baik disajikan bareng nasi dan sop ayam, atau hanya dengan nasi. Mantaaap banget rasanya 😀
Bahan:
10 potong ayam
4 siung bawang putih
1 batang bawang prei
2-3 sendok makan kecap manis
minyak untuk menggoreng
2 sendok makan margarine
garam, gula, dan vetsin secukupnya
1/4 gelas air, jika dibutuhkan
Cara Membuat:
- Bumbui ayam dengan bawang putih serta garam
- Goreng ayam, sisihkan
- Potong-potong bawang prei, sisihkan
- Memarkan dua siung bawang putih, tumis dengan menggunakan margarine, tambahkan kecap manis, garam, gula, vetsin, serta sedikit air.
- Masukkan ayam, aduk rata
- Sejenak sebelum diangkat, tambahkan potongan bawang prei
- Sajikan dengan nasi hangat dan sop ayam
